    LOCAL KNOWLEDGE

What Marketing Looks Like on Maui

Maui is a contractor's market with a shortage of contractors, which sounds like it means marketing doesn't matter. It means the opposite. Demand isn't your problem, capturing it before someone else does is, and most of your competition is barely trying.

Search almost any trade plus Maui and you'll find unclaimed listings, one-page sites from 2014, and phone numbers that go straight to voicemail. Compared to a mainland metro the bar here is on the floor. That's the whole opportunity, and it closes as soon as two or three of them get serious.

Maui is full of condos and second homes owned by people in California, Washington and Colorado. When their AC dies, the person searching for you is 2,500 miles away, working from a tenant's text message and a photo. They need a site that makes remote hiring feel safe, meaning clear pricing expectations, real photos of your crew, and a way to approve work without a site visit first.

On a lot of Kihei and Wailea properties the homeowner never picks the contractor, the property manager or the association does. Those relationships are referral-driven, but managers still Google you before they call, and they check whether you've handled condo work and understand AOAO rules. Your site is either the thing that gets you on their vendor list or the reason you never make it.

The most common complaint about contractors on this island is that nobody calls back. That's not a customer service problem, it's a market-wide opening. If your missed calls get an automatic reply in 30 seconds while your competitor gets back to them Thursday, you win the job without being cheaper or better.

Corrosion on coastal equipment, mold, older housing stock with no central air, water heaters that die early. These are searches that barely exist in most markets and they're some of the highest-intent traffic on the island. Almost nobody here has content answering any of it.

Since the 2023 fires, West Maui has pulled licensed trades, permitting capacity and lead times in ways that ripple across the whole island. If you're taking rebuild work, homeowners are researching licensing, insurance and permit experience far more carefully than they used to. If you're not, your scheduling and parts availability are still affected, and your site should set expectations honestly instead of promising same-week service you can't deliver.

Kihei to Kahului is 20 minutes. Kihei to Hana is two hours. Whether you'll drive to West Maui or Upcountry changes what you should be ranking for, and mainland service-area logic will either strand you in one corner of the island or send you leads you'll turn down.

    Areas We Serve

Based on Maui, we work with contractors across the island and beyond. We also work with contractors on Oahu, the Big Island, Molokai and Lanai. If you're on the mainland and found us here, that works too. Most of what we do doesn't require us to be in the same room.

    FAQ

    Common Questions

Yes. Kihei is where the office is, but we work with trades all over the island and on the other islands. What matters more is where you actually take jobs, since that's what we build your service area targeting around. A plumber who won't drive past Kahului and one who covers Upcountry need different pages, and we'll set yours up to match reality instead of wishful thinking.

Because word of mouth on this island still ends in a Google search. Somebody gets your name from a neighbor or a property manager, looks you up, and decides whether you look like a real operation. When there's nothing to find, or the listing has three reviews from 2019, that referral quietly goes to whoever looks more established.

It changes what the site has to do. Someone hiring you from Seattle for a condo they haven't seen in eight months needs more reassurance than a local who drove past your truck, so the page has to carry photos, licensing, clear process and an easy way to approve work remotely. We build for that instead of assuming every visitor is standing in the driveway.

Because a full schedule and a good schedule aren't the same thing. When the calls keep coming you get to stop taking the small jobs, the difficult clients and the drives you hate, and start choosing the work with the best margin. Marketing while you're busy is also the only way to have visibility already built when things slow down, since a profile you start in a quiet month takes three or four months to move.

Those leads are rented and shared, which means you're paying per contact and racing three other contractors to the phone. Your own site and Google Business Profile generate leads that only come to you and don't get more expensive every year. Most contractors we work with don't quit the lead platforms right away, they just stop depending on them once their own pipeline holds.

Hawaii runs three hours behind the West Coast with no daylight saving to track, so our mainland side is already working before you open. Overnight inquiries from mainland owners get handled early rather than sitting until the next afternoon. When you need someone during your own workday, that's what the Kihei office is for.

No. We don't run two businesses in the same trade against each other in the same market, because we'd be splitting the same map pack and neither of you would get honest advice. If you sign for HVAC on Maui, that's yours. Ask us when you call and we'll tell you straight whether your trade and area are already taken.

Less than you'd expect. Access to your domain and Google Business Profile, a list of the services and areas you want to be found for, and whatever real photos of your work and crew you can pull together. Everything else we handle, and we'll chase you for the photos because they're usually the part that stalls a build.

Let's Find the Jobs You're Missing

Send us your site. We'll come back with a short list of what's costing you calls and what it would take to fix. If two changes would do it, we'll say that instead of selling you five.
